partial to

bane

だいぶ前にHiromi KawakamiのThe Briefcase(原題: センセイの鞄)を読みましたが、今回は "Under the Eye of the Big Bird" を読みます。

I'd rarely seen Hawa since the man arrived. When my child was half a year old, I walked through the garden and went to visit her for the first time in a while.
I cut an armful of eucalyptus shoots on my way. Hawa was partial to their smell.

"partial" は「部分の」と言う意味しか思い出せませんが、ここでは全く別の意味の様です。辞書を見ます。

・Oxford English Dictionary: (old-fashioned) liking somebody/something very much: I'm not partial to mushrooms.
・Collins Dictionary: If you are partial to something, you like it.: He's partial to sporty women with blue eyes.
・Cambridge English Dictionary: having a liking for something: partial to I'm not partial to fish.
・Vocabulary.com: If you describe something as partial, you're usually saying it's just part of the whole, or incomplete. Say someone asks how you started your band and you say, "I bought a guitar." That would be a partial answer, at best.
Partial has another meaning, too. If you say you are partial to something, you are expressing a fondness for it. Or not. If someone asks you whether you still love your husband after 50 years of marriage, for example, and you say, "I'm partial to him," you're either joking or politely saying "Not really." Being partial to something is to love as a warm stove is to a bonfire.

何か微妙なニュアンスがあるようで、知ったかぶりで使わない方が良さそうですね。
